Year: 1994
The year I woke up
I attended Flushing High School from 92-96 ( my nickname was MISSY) and during the first half of my education there my academic record left a lot to be desired. However during my "third year of 9th grade" in 1994 I finally began to listen to what my teachers had been trying to tell me since I first enrolled which was that I needed to stop being a follower and live up to my potential. My point is even though year after year I had given up on myself some of my teachers at Flushing did not. They continued to have faith in me when I did not. Now in 2010 I have a Masters degree in social work and I now provide psycotherapy services to individuals and families and am own my way to having my own private practice. I achieved educational goals ( and in the process married a former Flushing student)that I could only dream of.
My message to the current generation of students attending Flushing is don't be a follower; and those teachers that are telling you they believe that you can do better than what you are currently doing are telling you the truth so prove them right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
